I sprayed the Clorox cleaner on the counter and wiped it down while Ebony excused herself to the shower. I was dreading the fact that I had to call my mother, and then more than likely make a trip out to Colombia. I was so sick of traveling, I just wanted to sit at home and raise my kids. Once the kitchen was spotless, I washed my hands and hung the dish towel over the sink. Walking into the living room, I sat down with my cell phone and said a silent prayer before dialing my mother’s phone number. Drumming my fingers on the coffee table, I waited for her to answer the phone.

“Hello,” she answered sounding as if she were still asleep.

“Hey, Mama, did I wake you?” I asked.

“Yes, but it’s okay. I didn’t get to bed until late last night waiting up for your father,” she said after clearing her throat.

“Still no word from him?” I asked.

“Nope, and I can’t get in contact with Scott either. When I called his phone, he sent me to voicemail. I’m not sure what that is about, but I’m sure of the fact that I don’t like it,” she said with her accent thickening.

“Okay, well I am going to take care of some loose ends here in Atlanta, and then I will be on a flight home,” I assured her.

“Okay, baby, thank you and I’ll see you when you get here,” she said sounding as if she were ready to doze back off.

After I hung up the phone with her, I released the breath that I was holding. I knew that I would be headed to Colombia sooner or later. I planned to get the kids and just have Dolce’s funeral while we were there, no point in delaying the inevitable.

“Hey, lady, I’m about to head on out. The shop is bumping and my clients are wondering where the hell I’m at,” she said as she sat her overnight bag onto the bar stool. “You okay?” she asked from concern.

“Girl, no! Gotta go to Colombia, my mother still hasn’t heard from my father,” I said somberly.

“Aww, Chanel, I’m sorry to hear that. This storm is just about over, don’t worry,” she said as she rubbed my shoulder.

Looking up at her, I smiled and thanked her for her kind words. I knew that we would get through this hard time, I was just tired of hard times! I walked upstairs and found something comfortable to change into before I packed my bags. When I was done, I walked into the twin’s nursery and packed them up as well. By the time I was done, Cash was awake and walking up the steps.

“What’s up, Chocolate?” he asked while taking the kids bags from my hands.

“We’re going to Colombia. Mama still hasn’t heard from Daddy and I don’t feel good about it. I also figured we’d lay Dolce to rest while we’re there,” I said.

“Damn, alright let me schedule a flight, and tell Shelly we’re coming to get the kids,” he said.
